5/2/2013 Grammy nominated Professor Louie and The Crowmatix are regional rock legends with multiple roots fluencies and a direct connection to The Band via Aaron "Professor Louie" Hurwitz's production and sideman work with Danko, Helm and Hudson. And in the great tradition of The Band, The Crowmatix capture both the easy-going, pupulist surface of roots-rock and the subtle eccentricities and sophistications that often escape popular notice. The Band itself - at least The Band of "Whispering Pines," "Jawbone" and "King Harvest" - often sounded like an Aaron Copeland chamber ensemble in roots-rock clothing, and its message most definitely was not that "anyone can do this." One can hear the same artistry of arrangement and nuances of feel in the "good-timey" recordings of Professor Louie & The Crowmatix including their 2012 winner Wings On Fire. On Thursday, April 25, Professor Louie & The Crowmatix will perform at Club Helsinki in Hudson as part of the new Top Shelf Thursday series curated by Gary McKeever and Sonny. The mission of Top Shelf Thursday is to feature local talent with national tie-ins and reputations: an ever growing population in these parts. The show begins at 8:00 PM.
